We are Hancko Family Winery – a family-run winery from Levice, where reverence for our ancestors meets a pure, natural approach to winemaking. For us, wine is not just a beverage; it is a craft inherited from our grandfathers. Today, we carry forward their legacy with professional dedication, yet strictly under one fundamental condition: absolute respect for nature. We firmly believe that the greatest wines are born in the vineyard, not in a laboratory. That is why our winemaking is strictly low-intervention, allowing our unique Tekov terroir to fully express itself. We craft living wines that captivate not only with their taste but, above all, with their soul and our family’s story.

TRAVERTINE AND VOLCANIC
VOLCANIC
At Hancko Family Winery, we believe that real wine is not made in the cellar, but is born deep underground.
Our vineyards are not located on ordinary soil.
They stretch their roots deep into a magical place at the foot of the Štiavnica Mountains – right into the territory created millions of years ago by the mighty Sitno volcano.
This is our home. A land where two worlds meet, creating the perfect environment for honest, natural wine.

Where 15 million years ago the Sitno stratovolcano erupted lava and ash, today our vineyards lie on soft tuff and hard andesite. This porous soil breathes – absorbing water and nutrients with ease, allowing the vines to take exactly what they need.
TRAVERTINE
Šiklóš Hill, also known as Vápnik, is the remnant of a travertine mound, where until recently, in addition to travertine, the noble recrystallized variety known as "Levitsky golden onyx" was also obtained. Due to its beauty, it is considered to be unique in Europe and is one of the most expensive stones ever processed.
The origin of this hill is linked to hot springs of mineralized water that spring from great depths along tectonic faults. Calcium carbonate precipitated from calcium bicarbonate dissolved in water with oxygen. It was then transformed into travertine by hardening and gradual recrystallization. This travertine was covered with plants and animals during its formation, which have been preserved as palaeontological material. In the past, rhinoceros teeth, plant prints, turtle shells, and other remarkable fossils have been found here.
The local vineyards, growing on this special type of mineral peat soil, have been giving our wines their exceptional flavor in this excellent Central European microclimate since the days of the Roman Empire.
